Manchester United are in the midst of a crucial transfer window as they look to capitalise on the momentum built under Michael Carrick. Returning to the Champions League means reinforcing the squad is a necessity, with the midfield still a priority position.

United have already strengthened their spine with the arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. French middlemen Manu Kone of Roma and Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni are both on the radar.

However, the pursuit of Alex Scott has been called off, with United refusing to meet Bournemouth's £70m valuation. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford's next steps remain uncertain following Barcelona's decision not to trigger their permanent purchase option. As it stands, he could be reintegrated into the squad later in pre-season.

Following a youthful side's handsome victory over Rosenborg on Friday, here's a round-up of the latest United news…

Roma's frustration

Roma want to sell Kone to United sooner rather than later to avoid a heavy UEFA fine.

Old Trafford is the France star's most likely destination this summer but frustration is reportedly growing in Rome over the slow pace of the transfer. Roma need to sell a player before the end of the month to comply with financial regulations and avoid a penalty of up to £12million.

According to Corriere dello Sport, United still hadn't made a concrete offer and are 'moving slowly' over the signing. United were said to be preparing an offer of £42m, with Roma wanting closer to £50m.

However, with time against them, the Serie A club may have to lower their valuation, especially as United have shown they are not afraid to walk away from a transfer if the price is not right.

Competition for 'next Demebele'

United are in a head-to-head fight with Everton for Bologna forward Jonathan Rowe.

The 23-year-old, whose style of play was once likened to current Ballon d'Or holder Ousmane Dembele, has been turning heads in Serie A since arriving from Marseille last year, having started his career at Norwich City.

According to Corriere di Bologna, they want around £35m for the two-footed attacker, who is capable of operating on both flanks, with David Moyes' Toffees also holding a strong interest.

Rowe, who holds British-Jamaican citizenship, has played for England at various levels. He played a pivotal role during the 2025 European Under-21 Championship, coming off the bench to score the winner against Germany in the final.
