Manchester United are looking at more signings before the end of the summer transfer window.
They have already signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea, Karl Darlow on a free, Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, and Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur.
While Darlow and Thompson have trained at Carrington, Santos is the only new addition to play for Michael Carrick's side so far. The Brazilian impressed against Wrexham and Rosenborg while starting alongside Mason Mount in the double pivot.
United are still reportedly eyeing a left-back, a left-winger and even a centre-forward as they look to impress in the Premier League and Champions League next season.
While he was not called up to Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the World Cup, Lewis Hall is seen by many as the ideal replacement for Luke Shaw, given their many similarities.
Andy Mitten has reported that Lewis Hall is a target for Manchester United, as they look to strengthen their left side.
United's interest in Shaw would suggest that Patrick Dorgu is going to continue playing higher up the pitch (as a left-winger), rather than in defence.
Signing Hall could also see Harry Amass leave on loan once again. He impressed against Rosenborg from the bench – even finding the back of the net – but with Shaw's injury issues, it would be a risk to keep just the two at the club.
Noussair Mazraoui could fill in at left-back, but if United want to compete at the top of the Premier League and Champions League, signing a top-class left-back, like Hall, would be a sensible idea.
Luke Shaw has entered his final 12 months as a Manchester United player, with seemingly no option to extend his contract by an additional year – as United often do.
Harry Maguire was in this same situation one year ago, and he was not handed a new deal until after the January transfer window. At that point, he was free to talk to clubs outside of the Premier League under the Bosman Ruling.
The experienced centre-back had to prove to United that he deserved a new contract through his performances on the pitch and his availability to the side.
Shaw is likely to go through a similar process this term, given that he has often struggled with injuries after a good season (last campaign would be considered a good one).
Signing Hall will take the pressure away from Shaw to start every game, which would likely be too much for his body to handle.
