Guglielmo Vicario has remained in London while Tottenham’s fit first-team players travelled for their pre-season tour, with Roberto De Zerbi explaining why the Juventus target was left behind.
Juventus have been monitoring Vicario in recent weeks as they continue their search for a new goalkeeper. The Bianconeri have encountered difficulties in their pursuit of Emiliano Martinez during this transfer window and are exploring alternative options.
Juventus continue goalkeeper search
Michele Di Gregorio has reportedly failed to convince Luciano Spalletti, and the Juventus manager is keen to strengthen his goalkeeping department ahead of the new season. As a result, the club are assessing several potential replacements.
Martinez remains Juventus’ preferred target, but completing a deal has become increasingly difficult because Aston Villa are unwilling to allow the goalkeeper to leave this summer. That situation has forced the Bianconeri to keep other options under consideration.
According to Tuttojuve, De Zerbi explained why Vicario did not travel with the Tottenham squad. He said:
“Vicario is injured, not a big injury, but he needs to stay one week in London.”
Vicario remains a possible option
The goalkeeper’s absence is therefore related to a minor injury rather than any indication that he is set to leave Tottenham immediately. His recovery is expected to keep him in London for a short period before he returns to full training.
However, Vicario’s situation could still attract interest from Juventus if their pursuit of Martinez continues to stall. The Bianconeri remain eager to strengthen the position and are monitoring developments closely.
Tottenham have been open to Vicario’s departure during this transfer window, meaning his injury does not necessarily rule out a transfer. Should Juventus submit an offer that satisfies the Premier League club, discussions over a move could still take place before the transfer window closes.
Juventus will continue evaluating their options as they seek to strengthen the squad, with the goalkeeping position remaining one of their main priorities ahead of the new campaign.
