Manchester United could be on the verge of suffering yet another frustrating setback in the transfer market.
The Red Devils remain determined to strengthen the left side of their attack before the transfer window closes.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Al-Hilal have opened talks with Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye and have already contacted his representatives.
If talks progress positively, they are expected to approach Everton with an offer.
Man United also “appreciate” the Senegalese international but a deal has not progressed as INEOS are waiting to see what the future holds for Marcus Rashford.
Rashford’s uncertainty is hurting transfer plans
The 28-year-old spent the last season on loan at Barcelona.
Despite bagging 28 goal contributions and helping them win the La Liga title, the Catalan giants decided against activating the £26 million buy option in the loan agreement.
Rashford is now back on United’s books, taking home more than £300,000 per week.
There have been reports that manager Michael Carrick is open to reintegrating Rashford into the squad as the club prioritises midfield reinforcements.
Ndiaye is exciting with incredible flair and ball-carrying ability. He can also operate in multiple positions, a quality highly admired by Carrick.
He scored six goals and provided three assists in 32 Premier League appearances last season.
Everton will demand a very high fee to sanction his exit, particularly with Saudi interest intensifying.
Al-Hilal have already signed Crysencio Summerville from West Ham United, one of the players INEOS were interested in bringing to Old Trafford.
They have paid £55 million plus £5m in add-ons to West Ham. Everton could use that fee as a benchmark and demand a premium for Ndiaye.
United cannot afford to commit to a new left winger with Rashford in the squad.
If the uncertainty continues, INEOS risk watching another priority target slip through their fingers before the window closes.
