Man Utd’s chances of signing Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga have received a major boost.
The France international was hoping to prove himself to new manager Jose Mourinho in pre-season, but Radio Marca journalist Sergio Valentin claims that in a meeting, the Portuguese head coach made it clear that the player doesn’t feature in his plans:
“Jose Mourinho has spoken with Eduardo Camavinga and explained his situation to him. He’s going to have a very tough time getting minutes. Mourinho has been direct with him.”
“Mourinho already had this idea before arriving at Valdebebas [Real’s training base]. The club is looking for options for him to be transferred, although Camavinga, for the moment, has said he doesn’t want to leave.”
It’s big news for Man Utd
Camavinga is a player that the Red Devils have shown interest in signing. Speaking last week, Fabrizio Romano said that they “have had conversations” with the 23-year-old’s representatives.
This latest development does suggest that Camavinga could be on the move before the transfer window closes, although it seems the midfielder has still not quite given up hope that he can change Mourinho’s mind.
Camavinga is not the only midfield target
Michael Carrick’s side have shown strong interest in Roma’s Manu Kone, while they are also believed to be big fans of Bournemouth pair Alex Scott and Tyler Adams.
Fulham’s Sander Berge also features on the shortlist, but moves for the likes of Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Botafogo’s Danilo Santos have been played down. The pair have been offered to United by intermediaries, but the Manchester club are not actively pursuing either player at this time. That could change, but it seems Camavinga, Kone, and (potentially) Aurelien Tchouameni are the top targets.
