Manchester United believe that it is not feasible to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, according to Manchester Evening News.
United are still looking to strengthen their midfield despite the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.
United have been strongly linked with Tchouameni. The France international has been described as their ‘dream target’.
Madrid’s interest in Manchester City’s Rodri has led to suggestions that Tchouameni could leave the club, potentially allowing United to sign him.
MEN report that Los Blancos are willing to sell the France international, although United are unlikely to meet their valuation.
Madrid may need to raise funds from player sales to sign Rodri if they complete the deal for teenage sensation Yan Diomande. Tchouameni is one of the players they may look to sell.
The Spanish giants would reportedly demand around £70m for Tchouameni, a price that could be steep for Man United.
The Mancunian giants have maintained a disciplined approach in the current transfer window, refusing to exceed their budget for targets.
United appear to be considering players such as Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams and Fulham’s Sander Berge, who could be available for lower transfer fees.
However, Tchouameni offers greater quality and more experience at the highest level than Adams and Berge.
At £70m, the former Bordeaux star would still represent good value for money given the current state of the transfer market.
The 26-year-old would also add more physicality and height to United’s midfield, two crucial attributes that could help the Red Devils compete better in the Premier League next season.
Man United should be prepared to make a move for the Frenchman if Madrid are open to selling him for the reported fee.
