Manchester United have entered the race for Roma midfielder Neil El Aynaoui after his strong World Cup displays for Morocco. The latest news links him with a move to Man United, while Liverpool and Fenerbahce are also keeping close watch on the Roma midfielder before the transfer window moves forward.
Manchester United and Liverpool enquire about Neil El Aynaoui
As reported by Football Italia, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Turkish side Fenerbahce have all asked about Neil El Aynaoui’s availability. The Roma midfielder impressed for Morocco with a series of calm and steady displays throughout the 2026 World Cup. While Manu Kone received much of the attention for France, El Aynaoui also raised his profile with strong and reliable performances in midfield.
No club has made a formal bid, and all three sides are still looking closely at the midfielder before making any move. Roma are not under pressure to sell after signing the 25-year-old from RC Lens only last summer, a deal that continues to pay off as his value climbs in the Premier League. However, his World Cup form has brought more interest from abroad, and more talks could follow if clubs decide to push ahead.
El Aynaoui’s stats in the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Goals Assists Tackles Interceptions Duels Won%
Serie A 25 1 2 20 17 46.8%
Europa League 9 1 0 25 16 52.3%
Roma value midfielder after impressive first season
As reported by RomaPress, Roma signed El Aynaoui from RC Lens last summer in a deal worth €23.5 million plus add-ons, and he quickly became an important part of the Serie A side. Born in France but playing for Morocco, he’s become a regular in Roma’s midfield thanks to calm passing, smart movement, solid defending, and a real knack for winning the ball back. His steady form throughout the season earned the trust of the coaching staff and made him one of Roma’s most important midfield players.
As reported by GOAL, Roma are expected to ask for between €35 million and €40 million before they consider selling the 25-year-old midfielder during the current transfer window. Lens will also receive a share of any future transfer fee, giving Roma another good reason to keep their asking price high during talks. Unless a major offer arrives, Roma are unlikely to sell a midfielder whose value has continued to grow after a strong first season, an impressive World Cup campaign, and another year of consistent performances for both club and country.
Why El Aynaoui could suit Manchester United
Manchester United continue to monitor midfield options before the new season, while Liverpool have also shown interest in adding strength in that area. El Aynaoui has turned heads with his form for both Roma and Morocco. Aynaoui passes calmly, works hard and always seems to find the right spot on the pitch. That’s why several clubs have kept an eye on him this past year, with his all-round game seen as a natural fit for the physical demands of English football.
He built on that reputation at the 2026 World Cup. His strong displays helped Morocco hold their own against some of the tournament’s toughest teams. Roma have not received a formal offer, and there are no clear signs that a transfer is close at this stage.
However, with Manchester United, Liverpool, and Fenerbahce all making enquiries, El Aynaoui is expected to remain one of the most closely watched midfielders as the summer transfer window continues, with Roma still holding a strong position in any future negotiations. That gives the Serie A club greater control over negotiations if formal offers arrive before the transfer window closes.
