Manchester United have a big plan this summer. Marcus Rashford could help pay for a new Roma man, as per the latest Man United transfer news.
United eye €60m Roma target Manu Kone
Manchester United have picked out Roma man Manu Kone as a top summer target. The French star impressed as France reached fourth place at the World Cup. He is now on a short break before he joins Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad for pre season training.
As reported by Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma face tough money rules this summer. Selling Kone would give Roma fresh cash for other targets. Roma have set his price at around €60 million, and they will not go lower. United also face competition from Atletico Madrid and Chelsea, on top of interest from Saudi club Al-Ahli. Kone is twenty five, and United have already tabled an early bid worth around €50 million. Personal terms between the two sides are said to be close.
Kone’s stats for Roma this season, as per FOTMOB:
Competition Appearances Goals Assists Tackles Interceptions Duels Won (%)
Serie A 29 2 3 49 18 50%
Europa League 7 0 0 3 5 35%
Marcus Rashford could be used as bargaining chip
As reported by GOAL, to close the price gap, United may offer Marcus Rashford as part of any deal. The England forward has struggled for playing time in recent seasons at Old Trafford. Roma boss Gasperini is said to like his pace and direct running in attack.
Rashford earns close to €11 million a year, well above what Roma can normally pay. Any deal would likely need a loan plan, with United paying much of his wages. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, talks on this idea are still at an early stage. Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona. He scored eight goals and set up seven more as the club won the league title. But Barcelona chose not to sign him for good, and moved for Anthony Gordon instead. That leaves Rashford’s future at Old Trafford still unclear.
Rashford’s stats in the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Goals Assists Successful passes %
La Liga 32 8 7 84.7%
UCL 11 5 3 78.7%
Copa del Rey 4 1 1 87.6%
Old Trafford weighs its options carefully
As reported by GOAL, not every United official is convinced that Kone is worth such a big fee. Some inside the club feel the funds should go on other key areas instead. Man United signed Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea. Tynan Thompson also joined from Tottenham this summer. United want to keep building a strong, balanced squad for the new Premier League season.
Kone himself is open to a move to England, though Paris Saint-Germain also holds some appeal for him. He joined Roma back in 2024 from Borussia Monchengladbach and is under contract until 2029. Roma are also exploring other options in case the Kone deal falls through. They have held talks with RB Leipzig over winger Antonio Nusa as a possible alternative. The transfer window is now moving fast toward its final weeks, and both clubs know time is short.
From a tactical view, Kone would give Man United a needed engine in midfield. He wins the ball back well and can also drive forward with it at his feet. That mix explains why so many clubs want him in the football world right now. For Roma, losing Kone would hurt, but the fee could help Gasperini strengthen other parts of his squad. If United do land Kone, it would mark a smart piece of business.
