Manchester United are reportedly willing to cash in on Harry Amass, with Lewis Hall emerging as the club’s ultimate target.
Last season, the Red Devils had limited options at left-back, as Patrick Dorgu was fielded further up the field, and Tyrell Malacia was cast away.
Luckily for Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick, they were able to count on Luke Shaw, who started in all 38 Premier League fixtures.
Man United ready to offload Harry Amass for good
With Champions League nights back at Old Trafford, Man Utd need to pair Shaw with another left-back capable of sharing the burden.
In recent days, Amass emerged as a possible solution, especially with his convincing displays in pre-season.
The 19-year-old made his senior MUFC debut under Amorim in the 2024/25 campaign, but was sent out on loan last season.
Amass found individual success during the first half of the campaign, which he spent at Sheffield Wednesday.
He won back-to-back Player of the Month awards at his temporary club, an honour he bragged about on social media when Amorim used him and Chido Obi as examples of struggling Carrington academy products, although the Portuguese manager was likely referring to Wednesday’s woes rather than the teenager’s. Amass swiftly deleted the post afterwards.
The teenager was recalled in January, before joining Norwich City, but suffered a serious injury shortly following his arrival.
But according to The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell, Man Utd are open to parting ways with Amass again, this time on a permanent basis. INEOS are willing to sell the young player for £6 million.
Interestingly, the same report mentions Lewis Hall as the priority target for Man Utd should they pursue a new left-back.
What are Man Utd’s chances of signing Lewis Hall?
If Amass were to leave the club, MUFC must certainly recruit a new left-back, even if Dorgu could always be reinstated into his original role.
However, landing Hall won’t be a straightforward operation by any means, as United will have to negotiate with their arch-rivals Newcastle, who have already collected £170 million through the sales of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Spurs.
Nevertheless, previous reports mentioned that Hall was ‘unhappy’ with his status at St. James’ Park, with Eddie Howe placing Dan Burn ahead of him in the pecking order.
Therefore, INEOS would likely need the 21-year-old to voice his frustration and request a departure, which could always boost their chances.
That being said, Hall’s arrival would still require a significant investment, likely exceeding £50 million.
