July 28 – Real Madrid have agreed personal terms with RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande after Paris Saint-Germain walked away. The fee will be “well in excess” of €100million – and marks an incredible rise for the 19-year-old.
Just two years ago, Diomande was playing semi-professional football in central Florida, turning out for AS Frenzi in the UPSL, the semi-pro American league built on player development. Frenzi, who won the UPSL Spring National Championship in 2023, have become one of the league’s real pathways for talent. From there, the Ivorian moved to Leganes and then Leipzig, and now the biggest club in the world.
Liverpool had a £69m bid rejected in June, while PSG saw a final €102.5m offer knocked back on Sunday and made their exit plain. “The asking transfer fee and salary demands were completely disproportionate and distortive,” the French club said, adding they would not “engage in the inflationary and manipulative games of certain player agents.”
Fifteen-times European champions Madrid pressed on and their terms are modelled on Jude Bellingham’s deal, performance incentivised and improving year on year. Sources say key negotiators Jose Angel and Juni Calafat scouted Diomande for roughly five years and were not reacting to a hot World Cup.
Leipzig did fight to keep him but the Bundesliga’s young player of the season for 2025/26, with 12 goals and eight assists, was increasingly in the top clubs’ sights.
