Liverpool have begun talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a possible deal for Bradley Barcola, though the clubs remain a distance apart in their valuations.
Barcola is now viewed as Liverpool’s No. 1 target this summer, following the breakdown of their pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.
The Frenchman has entered the final two years of his contract with PSG and has made clear he does not intend to sign a new deal, which has opened him up for a big-money transfer.
L’Equipe now report, via GFFN, that Liverpool and PSG have opened talks over a possible deal, with Barcola prioritising a switch to Anfield.
However, it is expected to be a lengthy process of negotiations as there is a gulf in PSG’s asking price and Liverpool’s own valuation.

According to The Athletic, PSG are seeking upwards of €170 million (£145.4m) for Barcola, while Liverpool were previously claimed to consider the deal worth around half that.
Barcola is yet to report back for pre-season training with his current club, having reached the third-placed playoff of this summer’s World Cup with France.
He is due to return to duty around August 8, which could see further talks held with PSG’s hierarchy and head coach Luis Enrique.
That is unlikely to change Barcola’s stance, however, with it now widely reported that he will seek an exit this summer and prefers Liverpool over his other suitors including Arsenal.

Liverpool are not expected to replicate last summer’s record-breaking single-window spend, and BBC Sport‘s Aadam Patel reports that if this deal is completed “there will be limitations to what more they can do in the market.”
Clearly there could be concerns over this approach considering Andoni Iraola has already admitted his squad is “thin” in terms of defence.
With Hugo Ekitike facing an extended absence, too, there is cause to argue that another centre-forward will be required, while midfield could be another area to address.
As it stands, Liverpool’s only first-team signings this summer are Jeremy Jacquet (£60m) and Victor Munoz (£34.5m), while Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate all left on free transfers.
