The Red Devils are out to bring Aurelien Tchouameni to Old Trafford. In a fresh move, Man Utd have made a transfer inquiry for the Real Madrid player.
Man Utd renew interest in Tchouameni despite Mourinho’s objections
As reported by The Sun, Man Utd are probably seeking Tchouameni for the next season. The Red Devils are ready to do so despite the objections from Jose Mourinho, the current manager of Real Madrid. Real Madrid signed him in 2022 for a total amount of €100 million [including an initial amount of €80 million]. Naturally, Los Blancos wouldn’t like to let him out on a cheap deal.
Tchouameni joined Real Madrid in 2022. He previously was a part of Monaco. Tchouameni played for the club between 2020 and 2022. He also played for Bordeaux. The Frenchman joined the youth academy in 2011. Then, he played for the club’s reserve team from 2017 to 2018. Subsequently, he joined the main team in 2018. He playe for Bordeaux between 2018 and 2020.

Why does Mourinho want to retain Tchouameni?
Tchouameni is capable of playing in multiple positions. The French player is not only a good defensive midfielder, but also a brilliant centre-back. That is one of the main reasons why Jose Mourinho wants him at Santiago Bernabeu for the 2026-27 season.
Tchouameni performed well individually for Real Madrid last year. Los Blancos finished 2nd in the 2025-26 La Liga. They also made it to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup semifinals. Sadly, Los Blancos lost to Paris Saint-Germain 4-0.
Meanwhile Man Utd want a strong lineup for next season, especially the Premier League. The management is already seeking players like Murillo, Nico Schlotterbeck and Lewis Hall. If they manage to convince Tchouameni somehow, it will be a bonus for the Red Devils.
Future gameplan for Aurelien Tchouameni
Tchouameni is currently cooling down after a hectic season. He was part of the French team that finished runners-up in the 2022 World Cup edition. The French player was also a part of the team which represented France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Les Bleus made it to the semifinals for the third successive time since the 2018 edition. However, they lost to eventual champions Spain 2-0. France further lost an intense third-place duel to England 6-4, who won their first World Cup medal since the 1966 edition.
Tchouameni needs to work on both his health and his fitness concerns for now. The French defensive midfielder sustained a left thigh hamstring injury in November 2025 during a match against Liverpool. Due to this, he was forced to sit out for three consecutive weeks. Additionally, he received 8 yellow cards during the 2025-26 La Liga. This is not a great sign for someone who wants to be a big name in European football.
It will be an intense battle between Man Utd and Real Madrid for securing Aurelien Tchouameni for the next football season. Neither of the side are ready to give up for now. Both have their reasons for pursuing the Frenchman. If Tchouameni remains with Real Madrid, they will have a better shot at La Liga next season. Likewise, if he joins the Red Devils at Old Trafford, he could lead them to unprecedented heights in the next season. It remains to be seen which club he eventually chooses for his upcoming season.
