Manchester United have been given a boost in their pursuit of Newcastle United full-back Lewis Hall, who is reportedly open to joining them.
The Red Devils have been fixated on their ongoing midfield reboot, but the left-back slot is another department requiring immediate attention.
With Luke Shaw being the only recognised left-back in the squad, INEOS are expected to take action this summer.
Lewis Hall ‘keen’ to sign for Man United
Last season, Shaw astonishingly started in all 38 Premier League fixtures, which is quite an achievement for a 30-year-old whose career has been hampered by injury nightmares.
Nevertheless, replicating this feat is unrealistic with the club back in the Champions League for the first time in three years.
Patrick Dorgu was brought in January 2025 to bolster the left flank, but the young Dane has been more convincing and impactful when playing in an advanced role, especially under Michael Carrick.
19-year-old Harry Amass has returned from a loan spell at Norwich, but The Athletic believes United plan to cash in on the teenager this summer, setting their asking price at £6 million.
The versatile Noussair Mazraoui is more than capable of filling in on the left side of the defence, but he remains a right-back in nature.
Therefore, Man Utd need to pair Shaw with a reliable backup, and all trusted sources have thus far agreed that Lewis Hall is the first name on Jason Wilcox’s shortlist.
According to The i Paper, the 21-year-old Slough native is ‘keen’ to join United, but no direct talks have taken place between the parties.
Can Man Utd realistically sign Hall?
After collecting £170 million by selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham, Newcastle probably don’t need to cash in on any other big asset this summer.
However, previous reports claimed Hall has been ‘unhappy’ with his status at the club, especially after being snubbed in favour of Dan Burn on some occasions last season. The youngster feels Eddie Howe’s choices may have cost him a place in England’s World Cup squad this summer.
Therefore, if the Chelsea youth product tries to push his way out the door, Man Utd’s chances of landing him should significantly increase, even though negotiating a deal with their old rivals wouldn’t be a pleasant affair.
