Altay Bayindir returns to Carrington after receiving an extended break following Turkey’s World Cup campaign.
The Manchester United goalkeeper has started his pre-season programme alongside Amad as Michael Carrick continues to assess his squad.
United confirmed that both players reported back on Monday before completing physical tests, gym work and their first exercises on the training pitch. Their later return followed their involvement at the World Cup.
Altay Bayindir returns to Carrington with future uncertain
Bayindir was part of Turkey’s squad at the tournament but did not feature. His immediate focus is now on regaining full fitness and earning minutes during United’s remaining pre-season fixtures.
The 28-year-old made six appearances during the early stages of last season before Senne Lammens established himself as Carrick’s first-choice goalkeeper. Bayindir has since been linked with a departure, although he remains under contract and has now resumed work with the first team.
His return increases the competition within United’s goalkeeping group. ReadManUtd reported that Karl Darlow joined on a free transfer to provide experienced support behind Lammens, with Bayindir’s future already uncertain when the deal was completed.
Darlow’s arrival makes Bayindir’s route to regular football more difficult. Radek Vitek has also returned from a productive loan spell, although United are prepared to let the Czech goalkeeper leave for regular first-team minutes.
Bayindir could be involved when United face Atletico Madrid in Stockholm on Saturday. Carrick will then have further opportunities to assess his goalkeepers against Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds United and AC Milan.
Returning to Carrington does not confirm that Bayindir will remain at Old Trafford. However, he now has an opportunity to demonstrate his value while United consider the final shape of their squad.
