Roma are currently waiting on a deal to take Manu Koné to Manchester United, before then targeting players at Rangers and Sunderland.
La Gazzetta dello Sport provide the details today, explaining that the Koné deal will open the door for the Italian side to target replacements at Rangers and Sunderland.
Roma waiting
The newspaper explains that Roma’s attention is now on strengthening their wings. Their sporting director Federico D’Amico wants to add to wide players to Gianpiero Gasperini’s squad.
There are lots of potential moves in the pipeline, but many hinge on midfielder Manu Koné. He is being eyed by Manchester United, but they’re yet to make an official move. Sport Witness have covered their interest for weeks.
Should the Frenchman be sold, a significant investment would be required in the heart of their midfield. Sunderland’s Habib Diarra and Rangers’ Nicholas Raskin are among the targets in that eventuality.
There is no mention of how much Roma would like to make from selling Manu Koné at this moment in time. The 25-year-old is currently rated at €50m by the likes of Transfermarkt.
Manchester United interest
Whether Manchester United would want to spend such a fee on the Frenchman – despite reports insisting a midfielder remains at the top of their list – remains to be seen. They have already spent nearly €100m on Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer.
Roma’s transfer plans require a big income, though. So, there is very little chance they’ll accept a reduction on that €50m figure.
That’s particularly the case when Rangers are likely to demand upwards of €20m for Raskin. He is currently rated at €17m. Diarra is rated at €35m but cost the Black Cats €31.5m last summer. They are unlikely to sanction a deal below €40m, if at all.
For now, it all depends on Koné. If Manchester United sign him, the dominoes will fall and Roma will start moving.
