Lewis Hall is Manchester United’s number one target as Michael Carrick looks to strengthen at left-back.
However, United have not made a formal approach to Newcastle United and the England international remains happy at St James’ Park.
The Manchester Evening News reports that Hall has emerged as an option as United assess possible defensive additions. Any deal would depend heavily on the 21-year-old showing a willingness to leave Newcastle.

United’s interest comes as Carrick considers his options on the left side of defence.
Luke Shaw remains an experienced option, while Patrick Dorgu can also operate at left-back. However, United may want a younger player capable of holding the position for several seasons.
Hall would provide Premier League experience, recovery speed and technical quality in possession. He can play as a traditional left-back or move inside during the build-up, giving Carrick greater tactical flexibility.
Newcastle completed Hall’s permanent transfer from Chelsea in July 2024 after his initial loan spell. The defender signed a long-term contract and described himself as proud to continue playing for the club he supported as a child.
That attachment could make negotiations difficult. Newcastle regard Hall as an important player and would have little reason to approve a sale without receiving a significant offer.
United’s search for another left-back could also be connected to Harry Amass’ future. ReadManUtd reported that the academy defender is available for around £6million, with several Championship clubs interested in signing him.
Amass’ possible departure would reduce the number of natural left-backs available to Carrick, although Shaw, Dorgu and Diogo Dalot can all cover the position.
The Lewis Hall Manchester United transfer remains at an early stage. United are monitoring the defender, but no inquiry, offer or agreement has been reported.
