Manchester United have already played their first two matches of pre-season against Wrexham and Rosenborg, as Michael Carrick's squad prepares for a return to the Champions League.
The young players have been forced to fill the shoes of more senior players who remain on their post-World Cup breaks, although they could remain in travelling squads until the start of the campaign, with United looking to sell some first-team players.
But Zirkzee will not be the only man to depart Manchester United this summer.
Altay Bayindir began last term as Manchester United's starting shotstopper, with Andre Onana forced to the bench after his poor end to 2024/25. When Senne Lammens joined, he became first choice, but Bayindir remained the backup option.
However, Bayindir has returned to Carrington after his post-World Cup holiday and was asked about his future by a fan.
He said: "I have no idea. We will see. Time will show us everything."
Bayindir was named on the bench in all three of Türkiye's World Cup matches, but did not feature as they exited through the group stage.
He has been linked with a return to his home country in the past, although he is unlikely to move to Trabzonspor as Onana has returned there for another season on loan.
Bayindir's comments do not sound like a player who will be staying at Manchester United next season – certainly not one who will be playing.
Tom Heaton is the third-choice shotstopper, so new signing Karl Darlow will likely take up the backup position.
Darlow made 22 Premier League appearances, keeping five clean sheets, but was available on a free transfer this summer after leaving Leeds United at the end of the season.
He could make his Manchester United debut against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, 1 August.
