Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz dreams of joining Manchester United this summer, according to Italian publication Tuttosport.
The Red Devils have already reinforced their midfield department with the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
United are still open to pursuing a specialist defensive midfielder, and Tuttosport have today linked Luiz with the club.
The outlet claim that the 28-year-old is on the radar of several Brazilian teams, but would only consider that option as a ‘last resort’.
The 28-year-old wants to return to the Premier League, and he dreams of joining the Red Devils.
It is suggested that a swap deal could be considered with Joshua Zirkzee moving the other way.
Luiz is no longer a suitable target for United
The Brazilian had his best campaign with Villa during the 2023/24 season. He scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions.
He was subsequently sold to the Bianconeri for £42m in the summer of 2024, but his career has since stalled with no progress whatsoever.
Luiz played less than 900 minutes in his debut campaign at Juventus, and he was loaned out to Nottingham Forest in the first half of last season.
The versatile midfielder rejoined Villa on loan after leaving Forest last winter, but he was a fringe player for them with just 800 minutes across 21 appearances.
Luiz found himself regularly on the bench in the run-in. We believe he is no longer in his prime, and the ship has already sailed for him to join the Red Devils.
Kia Joorabchian represents both Luiz and Zirkzee, but United should not entertain the prospect of Luiz acting as a makeweight in any deal for the latter.
If Juventus are keen on landing Zirkzee, they should oblige to United’s demands. The Red Devils are open to a loan with a buy obligation for £26-30m.
United could provide some leeway to Juventus by accepting a conditional obligation to buy based on possible Champions League qualification.
