Tielemans could instantly reunite with ex-Villa teammate at Old Trafford, he ‘dreams’ of United move this summer

Douglas Luiz reportedly has his heart set on a permanent Juventus exit this summer, with Old Trafford deemed his preferred destination.

That’s according to Italian outlet TuttoSport (via Sport Witness), which claims the player’s ‘dream is to join Manchester United’.

Douglas Luiz: What’s been said?

The report adds that a number of clubs in Luiz’s native Brazil have established their interest in signing him, but he is prioritising an immediate return to England following the conclusion of his loan spell with his former club, Aston Villa.

Luiz spent five years at Villa Park and played an integral role in the side qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in over 40 years when they did so in May 2024.

However, the Brazilian departed that subsequent summer, joining Juventus in a £42.35 million switch from Villa.

How has Luiz fared in recent years?

To say things didn’t go to plan for Luiz in Turin is an understatement, though.

Of the 19 Serie A appearances he made during his maiden campaign, only three came from the off, and he spent the bulk of the term battling numerous injury setbacks.

After a nightmare 2024/2025, he returned to the English top flight by joining Nottingham Forest on loan, but saw his spell cut short after sustaining a hamstring problem.

Midway through the season, Villa took a punt on bringing the 28-year-old back to the club when Youri Tielemans, John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara were all ruled out, and he ended 2025/2026 with a Europa League winners’ medal to his name.

While United are actively scouring the market for a proven and affordable midfielder to join Tielemans and Andrey Santos, it’s unlikely they would take such a risk with Luiz, given his concerning fitness record.

Elsewhere, INEOS are monitoring the likes of Alex Scott, Aurelien Tchouameni, Carlos Baleba and Eduardo Camavinga.
