A Marcus Rashford transfer could finally materialise after Tottenham emerged as the likeliest Premier League destination for the Manchester United forward.

United are reportedly willing to consider offers worth around £30million for the 28-year-old. However, Rashford’s £325,000-a-week salary could make an agreement difficult.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is understood to admire the England international. TalkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook believes Rashford could revive his career under the former Brighton manager.

The report does not claim that Tottenham have submitted an offer or started formal negotiations. Arsenal have also been linked previously, although Spurs are now considered the more realistic London destination.

"I would have said in February/March there would be a 5 – 10% chance of Marcus Rashford playing for Manchester United again. I'd say there's now an 80% chance of Marcus Rashford playing for United again.

Marcus Rashford transfer could still depend on wages

Barcelona decided against activating their option to sign Rashford after completing a move for Anthony Gordon.

Rashford must therefore return to Manchester United following loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona. Michael Carrick remains open to reintegrating the academy graduate if no suitable proposal arrives.

A permanent departure would remove one of United’s highest salaries from the wage bill. It could also provide another £30million for Carrick’s remaining transfer business.

However, Rashford reportedly has little desire to accept a significant pay cut. Tottenham would either need to match his current terms or negotiate a compromise with the player and United.

ReadManUtd’s latest Manchester United transfer roundup explained that the club are prepared to sell Rashford, although he could begin the season under Carrick if an acceptable bid does not arrive.

A move to Tottenham would allow Rashford to remain in the Premier League and work under a manager known for developing attacking players.

United are not forced to accept a reduced fee, with Rashford under contract until 2028. His salary remains the greater problem as the club waits to discover whether Tottenham’s reported interest develops into a formal approach.
