Manchester United fans have taken to TalkingPoints to express their views on the news this week that Ineos are open to letting academy standouts leave the club.
Pre-season 2026 has seen Manchester United’s academy talents starring, with the performances so far showcasing that the youth is ready to help Michael Carrick’s side.
However, despite how good they have been, this week has seen the stance become that a sale is more likely. Reports indicate United are open to selling Harry Amass, who has arguably been the best player in pre-season, for just £6m.
While Dan Gore, Radek Vitek, and Toby Collyer are also named as likely casualties despite the former two showcasing their quality. It feels like a very anti-United move from Ineos, one which fans on TalkingPoints have struggled to understand.

We asked supporters on TalkingPoints how they felt about the news that United are ready to let these talents leave.
The response from most was pretty unanimous.
Jonny on TalkingPoints wrote, “Outrageous decision from the club if true. Amass has been brilliant this summer, Gore has shown he could quite easily play a part in the squad, and Vitek shouldn’t be sold unless for top price… the Amass decision is what has annoyed me”.
While Geldroper added, “Their whole transfer plan is annoying and embarrassing, no trust in Ratcliffe and Carrick about our youth anymore”.

User, Gdollop commented, “They’re not going to get a chance to show whether they are good enough if this is true. If Ryan Giggs and Lee Sharp had been flogged off before they had a chance to prove their worth we would have missed out.”
Adding, “Stupid and shocking if actually true.”
Sean Fisher suggested a reason why there is so much frustration: “I think the frustration is that we have been TERRIBLE at getting money for our academy players, while Chelsea, City etc seem to get eight-figure fees for players who haven’t even touched the first-team pitch”.
He also added, “I just don’t get why these sales have to be permanent! Amass could go on loan and return as a £30m player… what’s the risk!?”

While there is a lot of negativity going around, I like to believe Ineos are smart enough not to be selling Amass for £6m without a plan, when he is so clearly worth more and will be worth multiple times that in the near future.
Amass being sold could directly be linked to United’s efforts to sign Lewis Hall this summer, which in that case, does make sense because he wouldn’t get many minutes.
But letting the 19-year-old leave should only happen with a buy-back option or a huge sell-on clause to avoid seeing him become another very expensive mistake in the form of Alvaro Carreras and James Garner.
Amass being sold isn’t black and white, it can be a good thing if Ineos are smart, and it could see him become a much better player before being re-signed in a few years.
