In a surprise move, Man Utd aim to secure the transfer of Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams. The Red Devils have already signed midfielders like Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for the next seasons.
Adams to join Old Trafford for £35 million?
As reported by TheGuardian, the Red Devils are working on a £35 million deal for the 27-year-old Adams. The American defensive midfielder has been on their wishlist for quite some time. If he agrees, he’ll be the third midfielder to join Man Utd after Santos and Tielemans.
Adams joined Bournemouth in 2023. He previously played for Leeds United. He played for the club between 2022 and 2023. Before that, he played for RB Leipzig between 2019 and 2022.

Will Adams be a good fit at Man Utd?
Adams is well known for his defensive skills. He is capable of playing in both the defense and the midfield. This is one of the major reasons why the Red Devils want him for next year. Adams can also fill in the gap left by Casemiro’s absence. The Brazilian player left Old Trafford by the end of the 2025-26 season. Interestingly, Adams is not the only Bournemouth player on their wishlist. Man Utd are also seeking out Alex Scott for the upcoming season.
Adams was a part of Bournemouth’s historic run last year. The Cherries finished sixth overall at the 2025-26 Premier League. This is their best performance till date. Bournemouth also made it to the third round of the FA Cup. On the other hand, Man Utd finished third in the League table, marking one of the best performances in the past two years. That is also the reason Michael Carrick [the then interim manager] was promoted to the position of the team’s permanent manager for the next season.
Future gameplan for Tyler Adams
Adams will be resting for a while before resuming practice for the next season. The American midfielder recently played for the USA at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. USA was one of the three co-hosts alongside Canada and Mexico. All of them made it to the Round of 16. However, none of the three hosts could manage to go beyond it. USA lost to Belgium 4-1 in the pre-quarterfinal stage.
Adams needs to work on his fitness issues if he wants to make it big in club football. The defensive midfielder sustained a serious MCL injury in December 2025. He was forced to sit out for nearly three months. However, he recovered in time for the FIFA World Cup.
Adams is not completely new to the Premier League, courtesy of his association with Bournemouth. However, once he joins Man Utd, he’ll get some top-tier experience. With their third-place finish, the Red Devils have also made it to the UEFA Champions League. If Adams joins them, he’ll get to play in premier football tournaments across Europe.
Man Utd are working on a tactical evolution of the entire team. Team manager Michael Carrick wants to build on the momentum he made ever since he joined his former club as manager. If Adams joins Man Utd, he can help Carrick in fulfilling most of his targets. It will be interesting to see if he is equally interested in joining Old Trafford or not.
