‘A positive and memorable experience’: Senior Man Utd star sends departing transfer message via social media

Marcus Rashford has expressed his gratitude to everyone involved at Barcelona following the conclusion of his loan spell.

His deal officially expired in June, but the forward has spent the majority of the summer with England at the World Cup.

Marcus Rashford bids farewell to Barcelona

Rashford took to Instagram this afternoon to say his goodbyes, writing: “ I’m very grateful to everyone at the club for making my time here such a positive and memorable experience. I’ve enjoyed every moment and will take many special memories with me.

“I wish the club and all its supporters the very best of luck and every success in the season ahead.

“Visca el Barça.”

It comes after the Blaugrana opted against activating his £26 million release clause.

Instead, they welcomed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a £70m deal before further reinforcing Hansi Flick’s attacking options with Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund last week.

Given he returned an impressive 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, Manchester United were likely heading into the summer with the expectation that Barcelona would sign Rashford permanently.

However, it threw a spanner into the works of INEOS’ plans when that wasn’t the case, as they had already been identifying potential replacements for Rashford, such as Crysencio Summerville.

Rashford will return to Carrington in coming weeks

Now, it’s expected the 28-year-old will be reintegrated into the United squad when he returns from his summer holidays.

United had set their sights on selling Rashford in order to have his £325,000-a-week wages removed from the books once and for all, but they can only do so if suitors come in with concrete proposals.

His terms did contain a £40m release clause for any club to activate except direct rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, but that expired a fortnight ago, meaning any new deal would need to be negotiated with INEOS chiefs.
