Manchester United confirmed another exit this week, with a Carrington graduate permanently moving away to Lausanne.
This summer, Manchester United are ready to sell multiple academy stars, and now the first has made his way out the door.
There has been uproar as United’s plans to sell Harry Amass for £6m were detailed, but as Tyler Fredricson’s departure to Lausanne was confirmed on Thursday, few were disappointed.
United have used the Ineos link to give Fredricson a chance to go and build himself a career in Switzerland, which he wasn’t going to manage at United, being so far down the pecking order. But United haven’t completely written off Fredricson.

Ineos haven’t given up on Tyler Fredricson being top class
United agreed to let Fredricson go, and it is absolutely the right decision for the player and the club.
But United clearly still believes Fredricson could reach his potential, based on what they have included in the agreement to sell.
It has been widely reported that within the deal to sell Fredricson, United have included a buy-back option, and also what is described as a hefty sell-on clause.

This is a signal of faith in Fredricson, with United concerned enough about looking silly that they have covered themselves with these clauses in the event he ends up being superb.
So despite selling, Ineos have shown they aren’t completely writing Fredricson off, which is a good thing.
Ruben Amorim praised Fredricson after handing him what was a surprise debut at Easter in 2025, clearly believing in the defender at the time.
“He’s really composed, he’s really humble. Every training with the first team, he’s really focused on every detail of training.
“He’s really good on the ball. So it’s a good opportunity for him.”
Since then, Fredricson just hasn’t played anywhere near enough football to develop as a player, but at Lausanne, he should play a lot and ideally develop, making Carrington proud.

Fredricson deal is example of what Manchester United must do in every academy sale
United have effectively covered their back in the Fredricson deal; if he turns out to be a success, they will be able to take him back. After confirming his exit, Fredricson wrote “Once a red, always a red”, which tells us he would come back in the future if offered the chance.
This is a tactic that United must look to use not only for Fredricson, but also to get buy-back clauses and big sell-on percentages in any sales for the likes of Harry Amass, Radek Vitek, Dan Gore, or Toby Collyer this summer.
This is the way Chelsea or Manchester City would act, and it has bore fruits for them over the past few years, both financially and on the pitch.
Fredricson is the example of how Ineos must be conducting these sales of academy players, never close the door, because if a talent turns out to be world-class, United need to be able to get him back.
