Wizards key guard suffers torn ACL

Washington Wizards guard Jamir Watkins underwent surgery for torn ACL.

Washington Wizards young wing Jamir Watkins could miss the entire 2026-27 season.

According to Joshua Robbins of The Athletic, Watkins underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.

The 25-year-old suffered the injury during Washington's NBA Summer League opener and subsequently missed the remainder of the tournament.

Watkins impressed during his rookie season

Watkins, who re-signed with the Wizards on a two-way contract earlier this offseason, enjoyed a promising rookie campaign in Washington.

He appeared in 50 regular-season games, including seven starts, averaging 7.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 steals in 20.6 minutes per game.

The 2025 second-round pick finished his rookie season strongly, recording a career-high 24 points and five three-pointers in Washington’s final game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
