Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has finally responded after New York Knicks guard Josh Hart took issue with comments Green made about Jalen Brunson's contract nearly two years ago. The exchange began after an aggregation account resurfaced a clip from Green's 2024 appearance on the Club 520 Podcast, where he questioned Brunson's decision to take a significant discount on his extension with the Knicks.

“It's the New York Knicks, bro. They can afford it. You ain't got to take no discount for them to get paid. My situation is different because Steph making $270 million, Klay making $180 million. All right, something got to give. Cool. I can take a less.”
Green continued by explaining why he believed Brunson, as New York's franchise player, should have maximized his earnings.
“He the top guy. Let Josh Hart or somebody else take less. They in my role. Guess what, Steph Curry ain't take a penny less. And neither did Klay Thompson ain't take a penny less. I don't know what he doing. That's $100 million.”

After the clip resurfaced on social media, Hart responded on X by writing, “We got to normalize grown men not counting other peoples pockets.”
Green didn't respond directly to Hart's post, but two days later he addressed the situation on his Threads account.
“Dude waited 2 years to respond to that video from 520? Why not say it then? Let's normalize not front runnin and talking while you up. Be on the same type of time AT ALL TIMES!”
Brunson's decision ultimately proved beneficial for the Knicks. By accepting less than the maximum available contract, Brunson gave New York additional financial flexibility to build around him. That approach paid off during the 2025-26 season, as the Knicks defeated Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in five games to capture the 2026 NBA championship, ending the franchise's 53-year title drought.
