During Thursday's edition of ESPN's NBA Today, Ramona Shelburne reported that Cleveland remains interested in Denver Nuggets restricted free agent Peyton Watson, a development that has slowed negotiations between the Cavaliers and Harden.
“I think that could happen relatively soon. The question is gonna be is it a two year deal, a three year deal, what the structure looks like is gonna determine what the money looks like. But the Cavs are still poking around with Peyton Watson and I think that's why James has given them a lot of room to negotiate.”
Shelburne's comments suggest Harden has remained patient while Cleveland evaluates whether it can add Watson before finalizing the veteran guard's deal. Because Watson is a restricted free agent, any agreement would likely require either a sign-and-trade with the Nuggets or Denver declining to match an offer sheet.
