Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green responded after New York Knicks guard Josh Hart reacted to comments Green made nearly two years ago about Jalen Brunson's contract. But one prominent Knicks reporter believes Green's criticism missed an important detail.
The exchange began after an aggregation account resurfaced a clip from Green's 2024 appearance on the Club 520 Podcast on X, where he questioned Brunson's decision to take a significant discount on his contract extension with New York.
“It's the New York Knicks, bro. They can afford it. You ain't got to take no discount for them to get paid,” Green said at the time before adding that Brunson, as the franchise player, shouldn't have been the one sacrificing money.
“He the top guy. Let Josh Hart or somebody else take less. They in my role. Guess what, Steph Curry ain't take a penny less. And neither did Klay Thompson ain't take a penny less. I don't know what he doing. That's $100 million.”
After the clip resurfaced on social media earlier this week, Hart responded on X.
“We got to normalize grown men not counting other peoples pockets.”
Green didn't directly reply to Hart's post on X, but he addressed it two days later on his Threads account.
“Dude waited 2 years to respond to that video from 520? Why not say it then? Let's normalize not front runnin and talking while you up. Be on the same type of time AT ALL TIMES!”

However, SNY Knicks reporter Ian Begley quickly pointed out the flaw in Green's argument.
“Draymond is too internet savvy to think Josh Hart waited two years to address that clip. The clip Hart commented on was posted Monday.”
Begley's point calls light to a trend on social media over the summer where aggregation accounts have posted videos of professional athletes talking about money in their personal finances, which has generated massive discourse from social media users. The back-and-forth between Heart and Green, also glosses over the result of Brunson's decision to take less money, which ultimately worked out well for the Knicks. By accepting a below-market extension, Brunson gave New York additional financial flexibility to improve its roster.
The move paid off during the 2025-26 season, as the Knicks defeated Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in five games to capture the 2026 NBA championship, ending the franchise's 53-year title drought.
