Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason has filed for a domestic violence restraining order against his former girlfriend, Marilyn Maritza Melo Rodriguez, according to TMZ Sports.
The petition contains allegations that Rodriguez physically assaulted Eason, damaged approximately $92,000 worth of his clothing, and was connected to threats against his safety.
Eason is asking the court to order Rodriguez to stay away from him, his residence, workplace, vehicle and any California arena where the Rockets play.
The allegations outlined in the petition have not been proven in court, and TMZ did not report a response from Rodriguez.
Tari Eason alleges he was punched in the face
According to the court documents obtained by TMZ, Eason described Rodriguez as someone he previously dated.
Eason alleged that Rodriguez's mother once asked him to drive her daughter home. He claimed that a discussion became physical after they arrived and that Rodriguez repeatedly punched him in the face with a closed fist.
The 25-year-old also said that one of Rodriguez's friends called him and threatened to "break both of my legs" and "kill me," leaving him afraid for his safety.
Eason claims $92,000 worth of clothes were destroyed
Eason further alleged that Rodriguez returned to the Airbnb where he was staying and poured liquid bleach over his designer clothing.
The Rockets forward estimated that approximately $92,000 worth of personal property was destroyed.
Eason is seeking protection not only at his home and workplace but also at California arenas where Houston could play during the NBA season.
Eason preparing for fifth NBA season
Eason is entering his fifth NBA season after being selected by Houston with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
The 6-foot-8 forward has averaged 10.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals across 221 regular-season appearances with the Rockets.
He averaged 10.5 points and 6.3 rebounds in 60 games during the 2025-26 regular season before increasing his production to 13.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in the playoffs.
Eason agreed to a reported five-year, $81.5 million contract with Houston earlier in July.
