Former scout feels Tottenham will recruit a quality replacement for Juventus-linked Guglielmo Vicario.
Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment this summer have grabbed the headlines, and there is still more business to be done. This has been confirmed by head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who has teased the fans with another ‘bomba’ signing.
There are some players expected to depart the club in the next few weeks. Club captain Cristian Romero has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan, while Guglielmo Vicario has admirers at Juventus. De Zerbi has admitted that both Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario have indicated to him that they want to leave Spurs this summer.
As far as Vicario is concerned, the 29-year-old has not managed to convince the club chiefs and the fans across three years in North London that he can become Tottenham’s long-term goalkeeper. As the Italian underwent hernia surgery in March, De Zerbi had to bank on Antonin Kinsky in goal, and he impressed. This has led to the Tottenham boss placing his trust in Kinsky and deciding to part ways with Vicario.
Former scout expects Tottenham to sign a top replacement for Vicario
Juventus are the favourites to sign Vicario, having identified him as an alternative to Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez. Luciano Spalletti has reportedly held talks with the Tottenham goalkeeper and wants him to become his main man in goal at Juventus next season.
Now, ex-scout Bryan King feels that Tottenham bosses are working in the background for a new goalkeeper to potentially replace Vicario. He expects the North Londoners to bring in a “top goalkeeper”.
“It’s strange that you’re getting an Italian coach come in and he doesn’t fancy the Italian keeper, does he? He’ll probably move back to Italy,” Bryan King exclusively told Football Insider.
“I think that’s been a problem with them anyway, Spurs. Especially Vicario at times. His first season when he was in, he really kept Spurs in games.
“He looked as though he could be the solution, but then some of his performances, especially on crosses and stuff, he was very poor.
“I think they’re both inconsistent. I think Spurs must be on the lookout for a really renowned, top goalkeeper.”
Anatoliy Trubin identified as Vicario replacement
The Spurs bosses have set their sights on Benfica shot-stopper Anatoliy Trubin as a replacement for Vicario. The Ukrainian international has proven to be a reliable presence between the sticks for Benfica in the last couple of seasons. He finished the 2025/26 league season with 13 clean sheets, conceding just 24 goals in 32 games.
While Trubin has an eye-watering €100 million release clause in his contract that runs until 2028, Benfica could be forced to listen to offers at around €40m this summer. Aston Villa are also interested and could rival Spurs for his signature if Martinez departs.
