Bayern Munich have identified Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko as a potential long-term successor to Harry Kane.

The England captain is widely considered one of the best players in the world and is a leading candidate for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.

However, the former Spurs star turned 33 this week, so the Bavarian giants are thinking ahead, and their plans could affect Man Utd’s squad.

Bayern Munich target Benjamin Sesko

The Bundesliga champions began their summer by recruiting Morocco international Ismael Saibari, who had an exceptional World Cup campaign. The 25-year-old is a versatile attacker who can play almost anywhere in the final third.

So, according to reliable German journalist Christian Falk, Bayern are in no rush to sign a new centre-forward, but he expects them to launch a new attempt to sign Sesko in the future after missing out on him in 2024.

“Sesko? It is true: There is an idea to give Harry Kane a deeper role as he gets older at Bayern Munich,” wrote Falk in his weekly column for CF Bayern Insider.

“This idea was already developing at the club when Vincent Kompany first joined in 2024, which was why Bayern had the idea to bring Benjamin Šeško to Munich. He was too expensive at the time, which is why Manchester United ended up pulling off the deal a year later.

“However, the idea is still there to bring such a striker into the team. Now, Bayern have Ismael Saibari who can cover this role as well. So Bayern will perhaps see if they can make it work already this coming season.

“So they have to see if they’ll still need a player like Šeško down the line. The Slovenian is still on the list and he’s a player who’s very interesting for Bayern. Perhaps, if he’s struggling to make his mark in the Premier League, they could return to this idea.”

The 23-year-old already acquired Bundesliga experience, having played for RB Leipzig between 2023 and 2025, before moving to Man Utd on a £72 million transfer last summer.

Would Man United consider parting ways with Sesko?

Following his arrival at the club, Sesko initially struggled to make his mark under Ruben Amorim. However, he became a decisive player in the second half of the season, with Michael Carrick confirming him as a regular starter.

The Slovenian still has room for improvement, but the fact that INEOS aren’t seeking an upgrade this summer shows how much faith the management has in him.

Sesko is a traditional No.9 who uses his large frame to impose himself in the penalty box, but is also potent on the ball. Moreover, he has already struck an understanding with his teammates Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Bruno Fernandes, who often act as his support crew.

Therefore, Man Utd realise they might struggle to find a competent replacement for Sesko, hence why Bayern would have to come up with a truly irresistible offer to lure the player back to Germany.
