Manchester United’s hopes of signing Barcelona youngster Marc Bernal appear to be over. The midfielder decided to remain at the Spanish club. Reports suggest the 19-year-old has no plans to leave Camp Nou despite attracting interest from several top clubs across Europe.
Barcelona see the teenager as an important part of their future. His strong progress over the past year has convinced the club that he can become a key midfielder for many years
Barcelona have kept the same position throughout the transfer window and want him to stay at the club. They believe he still has more room to improve and see him as an important part of the squad’s future. His decision to stay means interested clubs, including Manchester United, will now have to look at other options if they want to sign another midfielder.
Bernal chooses to stay at Barcelona
Bernal has decided to stay at Barcelona and continue his development at the club. As reported by Manchester Evening News, the midfielder has shown “absolute loyalty” to Barcelona throughout the transfer window. He has no intention of leaving the club during the current summer transfer window. Manchester United are among several clubs interested in signing the Spanish youngster. Chelsea, Arsenal, Roma and Al Nassr have also shown interest in the highly rated midfielder.
Barcelona have no plans to sell him. The club sees him as an important part of its future and believes he can continue to develop by playing at the highest level in Spain and Europe. The report also says his contract includes a £427.5 million release clause, making a transfer highly unlikely unless Barcelona change their stance.
Manchester United continue midfield search
Manchester United have already strengthened their midfield during the summer transfer window. The club signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea in a £50 million deal before completing the arrival of Youri Tielemans after activating the midfielder’s £35 million release clause at Aston Villa. Despite those additions, United have continued to be linked with another midfielder before the transfer window closes.
Bernal’s name has regularly appeared among the reported targets. But his decision to remain at Barcelona means United will now have to explore other options if they decide to strengthen the position further. Manager Michael Carrick is currently preparing his squad during the football pre-season. The club has until 1 September to complete any remaining transfer business

Barcelona see Bernal as part of their future
Barcelona’s decision to keep Bernal reflects the confidence they have in the young midfielder.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, the 19-year-old played a much bigger role in Barcelona’s first team last season. He made 22 La Liga appearances and featured six times in the Champions League, where he scored his first goal in the competition during the round of 16. Those performances convinced Barcelona that he can become an important part of the club’s future plans. His consistent form has also attracted interest from several top European clubs.
However, Barcelona remain determined to keep one of their brightest young talents at Camp Nou and have no plans to let him leave. Bernal has decided to stay at Camp Nou, and Barcelona have no plans to sell him. That means the Premier League club are now expected to look at other midfield targets before the transfer window closes.
