Roberto de Zerbi has discussed the future of Juventus target Guglielmo Vicario and hinted that the goalkeeper has asked to leave Tottenham this summer.
Vicario is one of the goalkeepers Juventus want to add to their squad during this transfer window as the Bianconeri look to ensure they have a strong season in all competitions.
Juventus continue search for new goalkeeper
The men at the Allianz Stadium have worked to ensure they start next term with a refreshed squad, but they also want to strengthen their goalkeeping position.
Several times last season, Michele di Gregorio showed that he is not a player they can fully trust in goal, and Juventus are now looking to offload him during this transfer window.
The club view him as a player who needs to be replaced, and they believe Vicario would be an improvement on the former Monza star. Juventus have identified the Tottenham goalkeeper as a possible solution to their problem.
Tottenham have agreed to let him leave this summer and no longer consider him their first choice. As a result, he is not expected to remain at the club, and Juventus want to convince him to join them.
De Zerbi comments on Vicario situation
De Zerbi left Vicario behind as the team travelled for their pre-season tour and, as reported by Tuttojuve, said:
“At the beginning of my tenure, I had a million individual meetings.
“And the players explained to me what their ideas were. I said, ‘Yes, help me stay in the Premier League, and then I’ll help you leave.’ Romero was incredible with me. The best. In his behaviour, in his respect, he suffered when he missed the last match. It’s not true that he wanted to return to Argentina to prepare for the World Cup. After the semi-final against England, we exchanged messages, but I never called him to convince him to stay. I respected what he told me. As with Vicario, as with every player.”
The comments have increased speculation over Vicario’s future, with Juventus now monitoring the situation closely. The Bianconeri will hope they can complete a move and add the goalkeeper to their squad this summer.
