Manchester United player tipped for surprise Frank Lampard reunion
Mason Mount leaving Old Trafford has been described as “doable”, with Gary McAllister backing Frank Lampard to reunite with the Manchester United midfielder.
The former Coventry captain believes Mount could relaunch his career by joining the newly promoted Premier League club on loan.
Lampard handed Mount his senior Chelsea debut in 2019 after previously working with him at Derby County.
However, McAllister’s comments represent a transfer suggestion rather than confirmation that Coventry have contacted United or the player.

“This one could happen,” McAllister told the Daily Star.
“Mason Mount’s not playing football, and he got on really well with Frank.”
McAllister believes Mount may prioritise regular Premier League minutes over the financial side of a possible move.
“Getting minutes and playing Premier League football on loan, I know it sounds massively extreme, but it’s doable because I think there’s a lot of respect between the pair,” he added.
Mount joined United from Chelsea in July 2023 but injuries have prevented him from establishing a consistent starting role.
The 27-year-old remains involved in Michael Carrick’s plans and has taken part in United’s pre-season programme. He also wore the captain’s armband during the second half of the 5-0 win over Rosenborg.
Mount later described himself as a leader who wants to guide United’s younger players, as covered in ReadManUtd’s report on his emerging role.
Coventry could offer more regular football and the opportunity to work with Lampard again. A temporary move may also reduce the financial commitment required from the Sky Blues.
There is currently no indication that United are prepared to approve the Mason Mount Coventry City transfer.
McAllister’s proposal is understandable, but a reunion remains speculative until either club makes a formal move.
