Newcastle United have expressed an interest in signing Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson, which in turn should boost Manchester United’s chances of signing Lewis Hall.
With Luke Shaw recently turning 31 years old, it makes sense for Manchester United to have a succession plan in place.
Most United fans thought Harry Amass was ready to provide cover as an understudy to Shaw next season, although the Reds reportedly have other ideas, with Newcastle’s Lewis Hall becoming a primary target.
While the transfer will be difficult to pull off, with Newcastle already having sold key players this summer such as Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, an opportunity may arise should the Magpies sign a potential replacement for Hall.

Newcastle eye Lewis Hall replacement
Newcastle are keen on signing Fulham left-back Anton Robinson, according to Alan Nixon (£).
The Premier League outfit are under pressure after Eddie Howe called time on his tenure at St James’ Park.
After a disappointing season, Howe’s announcement was probably the last thing Newcastle fans wanted after losing two key players this summer.
It could be about to get worse if United pull off the signing of Hall as well.
Today’s developments re: Robinson suggest Newcastle are already planning a replacement for Hall, who will be keen to leave a sinking ship.
This bodes well for United because if Newcastle are to sign Robinson this summer, they won’t be able to keep the USA international and Hall happy next season.
It would perhaps be easier for Hall to stomach if he came in as Shaw’s understudy at Old Trafford for a period of time before making the left-back role his own.
Recent reports suggest Hall is unsettled at Newcastle, which may have persuaded Howe to walk away from the job, along with the likelihood of Bruno Guimarães leaving for Arsenal.
Only time will tell if Newcastle will formalise their interest in Robinson, but United will be monitoring the situation closely as it leaves Hall’s future even more uncertain.

Lewis Hall has played all of Newcastle’s pre-season friendlies
So far this summer, Newcastle have played three matches as part of their pre-season preparations.
Hall has started all three games, playing 45 minutes in the first game against Darlington.
The left-back also played the majority of Newcastle’s games against Gateshead and Bristol City.
Although it would be better for Michael Carrick and his squad to have all of this summer’s signings in early, at least Hall is working on his fitness and sharpness ahead of the new season.
