Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns is due for a major extension
Fresh off of a championship in only his second season with the Knicks, Towns is due for a hefty four-year, $272 million extension. He has still not been offered an extension by New York.
Towns is already under a massive contract handed out by the Minnesota Timberwolves, which expires in 2028, and includes a player option in 2027. The All-Star big man is one of the most dynamic players at his position in the sport, and he debunked the theory that winning with him as a top option was impossible.

According to ESPN’s Vincent Goodwill, Towns is expecting a resolution in potential extension talks to be reached very soon.
“Towns wants to be a Knick for life,” Goodwill said (h/t SleeperKnicks on X).
An extension for Towns may have to include more sacrifice. With the second apron being something the team is strongly looking to avoid, Towns may have to sign for slightly less than the maximum amount to keep them below the second apron and capable of continuing to build a title team.

Towns has already shown willingness to make sacrifices for the betterment of the team. He completely changed his play style to support his surrounding teammates by serving more as an offensive hub, and he improved defensively to help the team win a title.
Players have preached the notion of buying in and making worthy sacrifices, and Towns has shown that he is willing to do the same. It is still unclear if the two sides will come to an agreement during the offseason, but after winning a championship, keeping Towns in the Big Apple long-term feels like a priority.
