Jacob Devaney had two fantastic showings for Manchester United during pre-season and is now set to further his development on loan for the 2026/27 campaign.
Last season, Jacob Devaney caught the eye at St Mirren on loan, taking to professional football seamlessly and quickly establishing himself in the Scottish side.
This earned Devaney his spot in Michael Carrick’s first-team group for pre-season, and he grabbed that opportunity with both hands.
Devaney was stellar against Wrexham and then Rosenborg, where he scored a goal in the 5-0 win, before dropping down to the U21 group to take on Altrincham.
Now, with first-team football looking unlikely, Devaney is set to head on loan.

Jacob Devaney has plenty of suitors for a loan switch
Speaking after the loss to Wrexham, Devaney demanded first-team football every week, whether at United or on loan, to try to develop and make himself undeniable to Carrick next summer.
United in Focus now understands that Devaney will be heading on loan this summer, with lots of interest emerging in the 19-year-old.
Championship clubs are looking at Devaney on loan, and so are teams across Europe’s top leagues.
Devaney has had suitors from last season, with United’s Premier League rivals watching his performances in Scotland, impressed by his ability.
United knew that and clearly rate Devaney, but another season on loan is probably the best move for his development, before reassessing next summer.

Jacob Devaney’s success at St Mirren has fast-tracked his career
Last January, it was clear Devaney was ready for senior football, and instead of staying in the U21s, he decided to push himself and headed out on loan.
Few of his peers go on loan so early, but this was a sign of his maturity and mentality. Having outgrown academy football, he took the next step.
By doing so, this summer, he is looking at loans to reputable leagues where he could turn himself into a senior international for Ireland and also put himself on the radar of Carrick as a player he can’t refuse.
More academy players should follow the example set by Devaney.
