Manchester United Transfers – Looking at What’s Needed
With the summer transfer window slamming shut in just one month, we take a look at the Manchester United transfers that still need to happen.
So far, Manchester United have made five signings. The acquisitions of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos are the two that have grabbed headlines. The former Aston Villa and Chelsea men are set to feature heavily, with youngsters Tynan Thompson and Kit Margetson to play a developmental role. Karl Darlow has been brought into the team as goalkeeper backup.
Despite several signings, Michael Carrick is still in need of several new players in order to bolster the team ahead of what promises to be a challenging season.

Manchester United Transfers – The Essentials That Need Bringing In
Defenders
With the signing of Senne Lammens last season, Manchester United’s defence improved. Injuries certainly hindered considerable progress, and with the increased number of games this season, with the Champions League campaign, demands on the players are going to be increased.
With Matthijs de Ligt injured, Lisandro Martinez having suffered from several injuries last season and during the World Cup and Luke Shaw injury-prone, it could leave United short at the back.
A left back is on the cards for United. Although Shaw played a record number of games last season, history would suggest that he may not be able to maintain that kind of schedule this season. Either an understudy to Shaw or a Shaw replacement should be on the cards. We know that United are interested in Lewis Hall; however, if they can’t get the Englishman to agree to a deal, they must pivot to someone else.
A centre-back should be looked at, although it doesn’t appear that Manchester United are in the market for one. De Ligt and Martinez cannot be trusted to consistently compete; Harry Maguire, at 33, is limited, and Lenny Yoro had a poor season during the 2025/2026 campaign. Ayden Heaven impressed, but is still a work in progress.
Midfielders
This is where Manchester United still need to bolster their ranks. After Casemiro left the club and Manuel Ugarte suffered an injury that will keep him out for a prolonged period of time, despite making two midfield signings, there is still room for one more.
Manu Kone seems to be high on United’s list, with interest in the Roma midfielder increasing daily. The France international impressed during the World Cup and, at 25, can be a long-term fix for United.
The club are still entertaining a potential move for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba; however, with a less than attractive price tag and high demands, along with a poor season last season, this move seems less attractive than it previously was.
Bournemouth duo,Tyler Adams and Alex Scott are admired by United and with Scott opting against signing a new deal at Bournemouth, a move could be possible. United will have competition for the signature of Alex Scott, with Chelsea interested in the 22 year old.

In attacking positions, Manchester United are fairly stacked. The Red Devils have plenty of wingers and several players who can operate in the number 10 position. It’s the striking position that they are a little thin on the ground.
Benjamin Sesko settled into life at United well during his first season, notching 12 goals in 32 appearances. With that being said, Carrick preferred Bryan Mbuemo when Sesko wasn’t fit, rather than Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman is seemingly on his way out of the club, it leaves a spot open for another striker.
United have a trend of signing older, more experienced strikers on loan to provide necessary support to the younger striker already on the books. Odion Ighalo, Wout Weghorst and Edinson Cavani are all examples of this.
There’s a good chance that Manchester United go down this well-trodden road again; however, rumours of a potential Ollie Watkins move would provide stronger competition for Sesko.
