Manchester United are set to receive a bid for one of their academy stars.
According to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano, Everton are interested in signing Man United striker Ethan Wheatley.
The Toffees are preparing to make a formal approach soon.
Wheatley is highly rated at the youth level after coming all the way through the ranks at Carrington.
He won the prestigious United’s Young Player of the Year award for the 2023/24 campaign.
He became the 250th academy graduate to represent the first team after making his debut under former manager Erik ten Hag in April 2024.
The 20-year-old is contracted to United until 2028, with the club having an option to extend his stay by 12 months.
Wheatley spent the first half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Northampton Town.
The spell proved productive as he registered three goals and two assists in 25 appearances.
United recalled him in January after attracting interest from several clubs before sending him out again to Bradford City.
He made 12 appearances for the League One side but failed to find the back of the net.
Wheatley has developed physically over the past 12 months but needs regular game time to fulfill his potential.
He is not yet ready to serve as the primary backup to Benjamin Sesko if Joshua Zirkzee departs this summer.
INEOS could opt to cash in on the young striker, but must include a sell-on clause and a buy-back clause to benefit if he develops into a star at Everton.
With transfer fees continuing to soar across Europe, United should also demand a valuation that properly reflects the striker’s long-term upside.
