‘I enjoy playing as a striker’ – Mbeumo sends Man United message
Bryan Mbeumo has opened the door to playing regularly through the middle for Manchester United after scoring twice against Atletico Madrid.
The option of the striker role gives an intriguing option for Michael Carrick, with the forward admitting he enjoys leading the line despite being more experienced on the wing.
Mbeumo scored both goals as United came from behind to beat Atletico 2-1 and lift the Snapdragon Cup in Stockholm. His penalty brought Carrick’s side level before he converted Jack Fletcher’s pass from close range for the winner.

Speaking to MUTV afterwards, Mbeumo revealed that he is enjoying the opportunity to play in a different position.
“I have done great things on the right but also as a striker,” Mbeumo said. “I think I am more experienced on the wing but I enjoy playing as a striker.”
The Cameroon international also praised United’s preparation, explaining that Carrick’s players followed their plan and are working hard to ensure they are ready for the new season.
Mbeumo’s versatility could become increasingly useful while Benjamin Sesko remains unavailable. The Manchester Evening News also noted that every goal he has scored under Carrick has come while operating as a striker.
United are still exploring the market for another centre-forward, but Mbeumo provides Carrick with an alternative already inside his squad. His ability to move centrally could also create more opportunities for Amad and the impressive Shea Lacey on the right.
After two more goals in Stockholm, the Bryan Mbeumo striker role is becoming a genuine option rather than simply a pre-season experiment.
