Manchester United wonderkid breaks club record aged just 15
JJ Gabriel has made Manchester United history after becoming the youngest player to feature for the club’s first team.
The record was set at just 15 years and 299 days when Michael Carrick introduced the academy star against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm.
Gabriel replaced two-goal match-winner Bryan Mbeumo for the closing stages of United’s 2-1 victory at the Strawberry Arena.
His appearance completed another memorable afternoon for Carrick’s side, who came from behind to lift the Snapdragon Cup. ReadManUtd covered the full contest in our Manchester United 2-1 Atletico Madrid match report.

Gabriel had already travelled with Carrick’s senior squad for the 5-0 win over Rosenborg but remained an unused substitute in Norway.
He finally received his opportunity against significantly stronger opposition in Atletico. CentreDevils reports that his appearance at 15 years and 299 days makes him the youngest player to represent United’s senior side.
The record does come with an important distinction because Saturday’s fixture was not competitive. David Gaskell remains United’s youngest player in an official competitive match after making his debut aged 16 years and 19 days in 1956.
Gabriel’s involvement still represents a major landmark for one of Carrington’s most highly-rated prospects.
Carrick praised United’s youngsters after the game, saying there were “a lot of positives” from seeing them contribute alongside the senior players.
Gabriel now has his first taste of senior football. With United returning to the Champions League and facing a heavier schedule, his development will be one of the most interesting academy stories to follow this season.
