Manchester United are ‘investigating’ the prospect of signing Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly during the ongoing transfer window, according to The Independent.
The Red Devils have primarily focused on bolstering their midfield this summer. They have already recruited Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, and want another solution before the new season.
A new left-back could likewise be prioritised given Luke Shaw’s injury record. Lewis-Skelly can comfortably play in both roles, and The Independent claim that United have a long-standing interest.
The Englishman’s future was put into doubt for most of the previous campaign amid the lack of playing time, but his situation completely changed with a prominent midfield role in the final month.
Arsenal would prefer to keep Lewis-Skelly as a result, but the impending arrival of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and the potential huge outlay on a marquee winger could change things.
Guimaraes should hamper Lewis-Skelly’s playing time once more, while Arsenal may have to recoup funds from a big-money sale if they pull off a fabulous transfer for Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior.
Man Utd unlikely to persuade Arsenal to sell Lewis-Skelly
Lewis-Skelly had a wonderful breakout season with the Gunners in 2024/25. He made his debut in September 2024 and went on to make 41 more appearances from the left-back position.
The Englishman made his national team debut in the process and scored on his debut against Albania. Manager Thomas Tuchel described him as ‘very versatile‘ after the 2-0 victory.
Last season was completely different for Lewis-Skelly. He found himself behind Riccardo Calafiori and new signing Piero Hincapie in the pecking order for the left-back position throughout.
There was talk that Arsenal could sell him for pure profit as early as April, but he turned things around in May, starting in the heart of the midfield alongside Declan Rice and keeping Martin Zubimendi on the bench.
Lewis-Skelly also got the nod in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, but it can’t be denied that his starting spot will be taken by Guimaraes if he were to join the club.
Still, it could be difficult to persuade Arsenal to sell him. They have players such as Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira, who could be sold to recoup extra funds.
Christian Norgaard is already on his way to Everton too. Barring Lewis-Skelly handing in a transfer request, United’s chances of landing the promising youngster look pretty slim.
Lewis-Skelly would provide a perfect solution for United as he can occupy a midfield or left-back role. It may take at least £50 million to sign him if the Gunners contemplate his departure.
