Casemiro’s Inter Miami journey has started, and he has already suffered the lowest low after coming off a high, and Michael Carrick looks like a genius.
Having signed for Inter Miami on a free transfer, there were some doubts over whether Casemiro had more to give to Man Utd.
His Brazil exploits at the World Cup put that notion to rest, but his Inter Miami debut was so good that it was believed he had elite football left in him.
However, Michael Carrick’s genius deserves more credit after watching Casemiro suffer a nightmare moment on his home debut.

Casemiro’s nightmare moment on Inter Miami home debut
Casemiro deserves credit for coming back from national duty earlier than expected and getting into competitive action straight away.
After an encouraging debut in the 1-0 win against Montreal, Casemiro started and played the full 90 minutes against Columbus Crew on his home debut.
The game finished 2-2, and the Brazilian was a huge reason why Miami couldn’t get the win.
Despite a busy defensive performance and metronomic passing, Casemiro had the double whammy of scoring an own goal that was entirely of his own making.
He gave the ball away in his own half with a sloppy pass, and when trying to cut the incoming cross off the resulting turnover, turned the ball into his own net.
Miami were leading 1-0 at the time, and even though they would retake the lead, Crew equalised late on to snatch a point.
Casemiro’s wait for his first home win didn’t end at the first time of asking, and it was partly due to his own performance.
It necessitates a rethink about how Carrick used him last season.

Casemiro’s life post-Utd has made one thing clear, and it’s that the Brazilian was made to look far better than he is by Carrick’s tactical setup.

The Man Utd manager minimised spaces between the lines and formed his mid-block in such a way that Casemiro didn’t have to patrol huge zones on his own.
As Kobbie Mainoo played the role of a shuttler in and out of possession, Casemiro was almost a disguised attacking midfielder with the ball.
Off the ball, he would sit slightly ahead of Mainoo and pick a zone, making tackles and interceptions only if the ball came in that zone.
There was no chasing the ball and engaging in sprint races, since that is simply not what he is capable of anymore.
The game was simplified for him, which allowed his experience and instincts to take over instead of overexerting his physical limits.
This is not a player who could have played Premier League football for Man Utd this season without bringing down the ceiling of the squad.
Carrick’s genius use of Casemiro deserves more credit.
