The Juventus head coach admitted the 29yo remains a top target but questioned why Tottenham have decided to move on from the Italian goalkeeper.
Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti has publicly expressed his surprise over Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to freeze out Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, acknowledging that the 29-year-old remains a primary option for the Bianconeri.
With Juventus actively searching for a new goalkeeper, Parma’s Zion Suzuki has proven “prohibitively expensive” due to competing interest from Paris Saint-Germain. Consequently, attention in Turin has turned to Vicario, though Spalletti admitted he wants to understand the context behind Vicario’s sudden drop in status at North London.
Speaking to the Italian media, Luciano Spalletti questioned why Tottenham have frozen out Guglielmo Vicario as Juventus consider a move for the goalkeeper:
“Vicario is an experienced goalkeeper who has already gone through some situations, one of them serious. We have to understand why a club like Tottenham decided to leave him out, what evaluations they made.”
Why Has Vicario Been Left Out at Tottenham?
Vicario’s situation at Tottenham underwent a rapid shift toward the end of last season. After suffering an injury that required surgery in March, Vicario spent extended time on the sidelines. During his absence, young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky took full advantage of his opportunity, establishing himself as Roberto De Zerbi’s preferred choice between the posts.

Seeking guaranteed playing time ahead of international selection, Vicario requested a transfer away from North London. De Zerbi subsequently omitted him from Tottenham’s pre-season tour, confirming that the club was working on a solution for his departure.
While Tottenham initially held out for a permanent sale, recent reports indicate the club has softened its stance and is now open to a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. This development significantly increases the likelihood of a return to Serie A with Juventus.
