A fit Mason Mount makes Manchester United a much better team.
Mason Mount has been the star of Manchester United’s pre-season so far. In the 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid, Mount was the best player on the pitch.
As a result of his performances, Mount is reclaiming a starting spot under Michael Carrick with just three weeks to go until the start of the 2026/27 season.
Of course, the biggest issue in his United career has been Mount’s worrying injury record. But the figures show that when Mount is fit and starting, the Red Devils win more often.

Mason Mount’s win rate as a Man United starter
In 2025/26, Mount made a promising start to the campaign under Ruben Amorim and then ended in a strong vein of form under Carrick.
The 27-year-old started 12 matches in the 2025/26 season, and United had a higher win rate when Mount started than when he didn’t.

When Mount started for United, the Red Devils boasted a 58% win rate, losing just two of those matches – against Arsenal on the opening day and against Aston Villa when Bruno Fernandes was injured.
United had a 50% win rate when Mount did not start in matches last season.
Mason Mount can be a key player for Man United
Under Carrick, Mount has accepted a deeper role in central midfield and he has been thriving in a partnership alongside new signing Andrey Santos.
Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans are yet to feature in United’s pre-season, but are set to return this week. When they do, they will face a tough challenge to dethrone Mount in the starting XI.

There is also the possibility of United making a third midfield signing this summer, which would add even more competition in the heart of midfield.
But United fans have been wowed by Mount in pre-season, and if he stays fit, he can prove once again that the Red Devils are a stronger side when he starts.
