The versatility of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha means that Manchester United can change their transfer plans.
In the 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid, Bryan Mbeumo scored twice to give Manchester United a comeback victory in Stockholm.
With Benjamin Sesko injured and Matheus Cunha still on break from his 2026 World Cup, Michael Carrick chose to play Bryan Mbeumo up front for 81 minutes of the clash, before replacing him with 15-year-old JJ Gabriel.
Mbeumo has spent most of his United career playing off the right wing, but he has the versatility to play up front. The same can be applied to Cunha, and that will be taken into account for this summer’s transfer business.

Man United don’t need to sign another striker
United still have transfer business to do this summer, with a third midfield signing expected.
There is also interest in Lewis Hall at left-back, and there have been a few whispers that another striker could be targeted. Reports claimed United wanted an “experienced” striker, but that may no longer be the case.
Cunha and Mbeumo’s versatility means they are more than capable of being back-up options for Benjamin Sesko, who starts 2026/27 as United’s No.1 striker.
There is also Joshua Zirkzee as a back-up option to Sesko, and upcoming academy star Chido Obi, who will be eager for first-team minutes next season.

Joshua Zirkzee’s future could change transfer plans
As things stand, United have four striker options when Cunha and Mbeumo are included.
However, Zirkzee could be sold this summer with interest from Premier League clubs as well as Italian clubs.

If Zirkzee is sold, then United’s transfer plans will have to change again, as another striker could then be targeted.
United want £30m+ for Zirkzee, and those funds could be reinvested into another striker. But for now, the priority is to strengthen in midfield and at left-back.
