Manchester United are reportedly planning to open talks with Newcastle United for young full-back Lewis Hall.
The Red Devils are planning to bolster their left flank, since Luke Shaw is their solitary recognised option for the left-back role in the first team.
Tyrell Malacia has already ended his forgettable four-year spell at Old Trafford, while Patrick Dorgu has been exclusively used as a winger since Michael Carrick’s arrival.
Man Utd looking to open a dialogue with Newcastle for Lewis Hall
While United have been linked with Hall since the start of the summer, the reports have intensified over the past week or so, especially following Eddie Howe’s sudden departure.
The English manager ended a five-year spell at St. James’ Park last week, and has now been replaced by Matthias Jaissle.
Hall was already reported to be ‘unhappy’ and ‘unsettled’ at Newcastle, so this could be MUFC’s golden opportunity to land one of the most exciting young full-backs in the country.
In his latest update on Man Utd Roundtable, Carrington insider Sully confirms the club’s staunch desire to recruit the 21-year-old this summer.
The journalist reveals that Hall is a name that often popped up during the club’s internal meetings, as Football Director Jason Wilcox is a ‘huge admirer’.
Sully adds that Man Utd have already contacted the player’s entourage, and they’re now planning to open talks with Newcastle.
United could make way for Hall by cashing in on 19-year-old Harry Amass, who has been training with the first team in pre-season after returning from his loan spell at Norwich City.
Is Hall a plausible target for Man United?
At this stage, many sources, including Andy Mitten, have insisted that Hall would like to sign for the Red Devils.
But while United and the player are both pushing in the same direction, convincing Newcastle to offload another prized asset remains the most challenging part.
The Magpies have already garnered £170 million by selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Spurs, while another £90 million could be on the way, with Bruno Guimaraes heavily tipped to join Arsenal in the coming days.
Nevertheless, some sources believe Newcastle could be willing to do business if they were to receive a hefty offer in the region of £60 million.
The new manager should try to do his part by trying to convince Hall to stay at the club, but if the latter reiterates his desire to leave, the Geordies might decide to grant him his wish if the price is right, even if it means selling a promising youngster to one of their fiercest rivals.
