Confirmed: Real Madrid youngster signs for La Liga rivals

Fran Gonzalez has officially completed his move from Real Madrid to Sevilla, with the Merengues confirming his departure through an official statement.

“Real Madrid CF and Sevilla FC have agreed to the transfer of our player Fran González,” the club statement read.

“Real Madrid will always be his home and thanks him for his work and dedication during all these years. Our club wishes Fran Gonzalez and his family all the best in this new stage of his life.”

Details of the transfer

Sevilla will pay around €3 million for 50% of Fran Gonzalez’s economic rights, while Real Madrid retain the other half and have secured buy-back clauses that allow them to re-sign the goalkeeper during future transfer windows for a slightly higher fee.

The Spanish shot-stopper has signed a contract until 2031.

Standing at 1.99 metres (6’6″), Fran joined Real Madrid’s academy from Cultural Leonesa in 2022, at the age of 17.

After progressing through the youth ranks, he was promoted to Castilla two years later and made nearly 50 official appearances for the reserve side over the past two seasons.

His development also earned him three appearances for Spain’s Under-21 national team.

Fran made his senior Real Madrid debut during the 2024-25 La Liga season, featuring against Valencia at the Santiago Bernabeu after injuries to Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin.

Although Real Madrid lost 2-1, the appearance marked an important milestone in the young goalkeeper’s career.

With his departure now confirmed, Real Madrid continue to rake in cash from the sales of academy prospects, while retaining control over their futures.
