Manchester United have identified the Newcastle United full-back as a key target at left-back.

Manchester United have been handed a potential boost in signing Lewis Hall this summer, with the full-back reportedly turning down the chance to return to Chelsea. Hall has emerged as a key target for United in their search for a left-back.
It’s reported that the Newcastle United man is unsettled at St James’ Park and could look for a move away this summer. That could be impacted by the shock exit of manager Eddie Howe over the weekend.
Given how highly-rated Hall is, United are expected to face competition for his signature, but it seems that Chelsea have already been ruled out. According tojournalist Simon Phillips, The Blues tried to make a move for Hall this summer, but he wasn’t keen on a return to Stamford Bridge.
It’s added that “it does look like it will be the case” that the 21-year-old will end up with United. If that’s correct, then it would be a big boost to Michael Carrick as he shapes his squad for the new season.
Hall made 46 appearances in all competitions last season for Newcastle, only just missing out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup. A price of around £60 million has been mentioned, with the defender still having three years remaining on his contract at St James’ Park.

He came through the academy at Chelsea, making 12 first team appearances for the club before completing a loan move to Newcastle in 2023. The move was made permanent a year later for £28 million, plus £7 million in add-ons.
Chelsea are said to have a sell-on clause as part of the deal, but did not include a buy-back clause, meaning that they would have to bid alongside United and any other interested parties if they want to complete the transfer.
However, without the player’s go-ahead, they are likely to take a step back, allowing United to make their move.
Carrick is keen to add to his left-back options this season to provide competition for Luke Shaw. That will then allow Patrick Dorgu to play in a more advanced role, with youngster Harry Amass expected to be allowed to leave either on loan or permanently this summer.
The 19-year-old spent last season on loan with Championship sides Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City.
