Manchester United have announced that Marc Skinner has left his role as head coach of United Women by mutual agreement.
The Athletic claim that Skinner had offered his resignation before reaching an agreement with the club.
His departure marks the end of the longest-serving managerial reign in the Women’s Super League.
Skinner was appointed head coach of United Women in 2021, replacing Casey Stoney, and enjoyed a successful spell in charge.
The 43-year-old guided United to four domestic cup finals, winning the 2024 FA Cup—the first major trophy in the club’s history.
United also secured back-to-back UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification under his reign. They reached the quarter-finals of the competition last term, where they lost to Bayern Munich.
In a statement, United thanked Skinner for his contribution during his time at the club.
“Marc leaves having made a significant contribution to the continued progress of Manchester United Women.”
“The club places on record its sincere thanks for his professionalism, commitment and dedication throughout his time at United, and wishes him every success in the future.”
Skinner’s departure comes after he publicly called for significant investment this summer if United were to compete with their rivals next season.
However, Man United have signed just two players thus far—defender Andrea Medina and goalkeeper Janina Leitzig. The squad has also been weakened by Melvine Malard’s departure to Chelsea.
United endured a disappointing end to the last campaign due to a lack of squad depth, and they risk suffering the same problem next term if they fail to make sufficient signings.
The Red Devils must now find a quality replacement for Skinner as soon as possible, with the league set to start in a month.
Man United will begin the 2026/27 league campaign away to London City Lionesses on September 4.
